UW Kenosha Criterium Series #1
Men's Category 3 Trocadero represented 5 for the 1st non-WCA race of the season, in Kenosha. Steve, Channing, Kevin, Scott, and I (Patrick) all lined up. Weather was brisk with a strong Northern wind between turns 3 and 4. All in all it was a pretty fast race, 24mph avg, but everyone managed to hang on and then some. Trocadero was at the front most of the race sharing pulls and initiating some attacking on their own (Kevin). Channing tested his pre-season form by pushing the pace, actually we couldn't get him OFF the front...what a beast!!
Kevin was lighting it up as well, attackin' every chance he could, along with what seemed like EVERY other member of EVERY other team!! Scott had raced the Master 30+ and was more than comfortable in the pack, keeping pace with the 3's. With three laps to go Kevin put in a huge attack that created a large response from the field, most teams had a guy represented. After that attack was neutralized, the last lap deteriorated into carnage. Kevin was primed and placed well for the sprint only to be taken out at the start/finish of the last lap...havoc ensued as riders scrambled to regain placement... a lead group of 15 riders was between turn 3 and 4 when two younger (one extremely crash prone Cat 5, racing as a Cat Three collided taking themselves and Sam Snider down, as well as several others. Thanks to CX, I was able to ride the lawn and avoid it. Unfortunately, Kevin was out, Scott has his rear brake engaged in a tangle, I completely popped like a wee girls balloon and Steve and Channing survived the crash monkeys. So, no top tens...but, next week we should have a FULL compliment of Trocs on hand to dish it out. |
